Honda is launching many new vehicles in the Indian market and the addition of i-DTEC engine is helping them a lot to stack up numbers. They recently launched the updated Honda City with the much needed diesel engine option. They also launched the Mobilio MPV only a couple of days back. Now they are planning to launch the updated variant of the Honda Jazz very soon. It was launched earlier as well but this time around, they will price is more competitively and will also introduce it with a diesel engine as well. On the other hand, Toyota might soon launch the Yaris hatchback which would compete with the Jazz and many other premium hatchbacks in the market.

The Yaris hatchback is already being sold in many markets right now. It is offered in multiple engine options in European markets and is also available as a hybrid. While we might not see the hybrid powertrain in the Indian market, we might see the other engine options. It would become clear only once the car is officially announced for the Indian market. The Jazz however would carry the engines we are already familiar with. The petrol engine would be same as previous model and the diesel engine would be the same as Amaze.

The petrol engine is a 1.2 litre four cylinder i-VTEC unit which generates a peak power of 88 bhp. This engine also powers the Brio hatchback and the Amaze sedan. The diesel engine would be the 1.5 litre i-DTEC unit which generates a peak power of 100 bhp. This engine would definitely make the car fun to drive. This engine is one of the most efficient diesels on sale in Indian market today. The previous Jazz looked nice but this one is even better. It looks considerably large as compared to other hatchbacks in the market. The front bumpers blend nicely into the hood which is curved giving it a sporty look. Inside it will get a nicely laid out feature rich dashboard with lot of chrome inserts. It is quite spacious and even the tallest of drivers won’t have any trouble.

The design of Yaris might not be to everyone’s taste but it still looks nice and would manage to turn some heads. It has got the modern Toyota face with a grille similar to the new Corolla. The bumper has been designed nicely and the overall front design gives it a playful look. Inside it is neat just and nicely laid out, just the way you would expect a Toyota to be. There is plenty of space on the inside and it has got seats that are supportive. The quality of material used inside the cabin is quite good though you might spot hard scratchy plastic in few parts. The top end variants will come loaded with features like automatic climate control. From the engine options, expect to see the 1 litre 3 cylinder petrol as well. The diesel option would be the familiar 1.4 litre 89 bhp unit.
