The 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show has just had its grand opening in Brazil, and the motor show is totally abuzz with the display of several new car models from the various global auto majors. The new Honda HR-V compact SUV has made its debut in Brazil at the just commenced 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show. The SUV will be making its official launch in the market sometime in the next year. The compact SUV has already began testing on the roads of Brazil, indicating that the vehicle will soon land up in the showrooms of South American country.

The HR-V first debuted as the Honda Vezel SUV and has gone on sale in the car markets of Japan, China and Sri Lanka. The Vezel is going to be called the HR-V for the American nations and also in Europe, and is slowly getting introduced in more international auto markets. The European spec Honda HR-V already got unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show that was held towards the beginning of the current month.

Honda Motor’s Brazilian wing has not divulged much information about the new Brazilian spec HR-V compact SUV. However, the company has announced about the crossovers production decisions and said that the vehicle will be fully locally manufactured at Honda’s Itirapina manufacturing facility in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The new Honda HR-V compact SUV will be getting powered by a 1.8 liter flex fuel motor. The same engine is also found doing its duty under the hood of the Honda Civic in Brazil, thus the powertrain is a tried and tested one. This potent fuel burner is capable of churning out a max power figure of 140 PS at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 173 Nm at 5,000 rpm, while it runs on ethanol. The engine will be mated to a standard 6 speed manual transmission gearbox, while a CVT transmission gearbox is also on the cards.

Though the Indian and the Brazilian car markets are quite similar, as far as India is concerned, Honda has decided not to launch the HR-V in the country. The HR-V is a more premium Jazz hatchback based model which the company did not find suitable for the Indian car market. Moreover, this sub-compact SUV localization in India was found to be not so practical by the company. However, Honda is surely going to launch a compact crossover in India, and it is expected to be a truly compact (sub-4 meter) SUV based on the capable Brio platform. The India specific Brio based compact SUV will be rivaling with the likes of the very popular Ford EcoSport in India. The Brio-based SUV is reportedly being developed for a 2016 debut.

Coming back to the Honda HR-V crossover, the vehicle will compete with the Fiat 500X, Nissan Juke, Renault Capture and the lot.
