Honda cars currently in lack of a hatchback model in the B+ segment in India. The buyers who are desperate the fact that the market has been gaining popularity since the number of launches have started increasing. The last car that Honda had under this segment was the previous generation Honda Jazz that was taken out of production because of its poor sales and absence of diesel model, which had more demand than the petrol model.

Honda seems to have realized that the demand for this segment alone is here to stay and is not going to wane anytime sooner. And probably that is the reason they are going to join the premium hatchback market with their new Honda Jazz. This new model will feature new design and better platform. Moreover, the car will come with much-needed diesel variant.

This new model of Jazz will be in line with the latest design philosophy of the company followed in Honda Civic and Honda City. This means that the headlights will be smaller in size and more inside the grille. The bumper’s shape will change along with the shape of fog lamps to make the lower fascia of the car more attractive.

The car is reported to be longer by 95 mm and will also have a longer wheelbase with respect to its earlier model, which means interior space will be more. The window line of this new Jazz will be sleeker along with alloy wheels.  The rear end shows the beautiful set of tail lamps along with the “shark fin” antenna. All these design changes makes the car look sleek and stylish.

The interior of the car will be entirely similar to interior of the Honda City which means the new Jazz will have touch sensitive buttons, a 7-inch infotainment system along with steering mounting controls. The car will also have a start-stop push button. The older feature of multipurpose seats will be extended in this model which means the extra storage capacity.

The engine of the petrol model remains same as the older model, meaning the car will come with a 1.2L i-VTEC engine. The figures for the torque and bhp have not been revealed by Honda yet, but the previous model was capable of producing 89 bhp and 110 Nm. 5-speed transmission and CVT transmission will also be offered. The diesel engine will offer 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine with the power of around 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. This same engine is also used in the Honda City. The diesel variant will only have the manual gearbox option.

With the new Jazz, Honda will release the first hatchback with diesel engine. It might not have the automatic gearbox yet, but still with its class-leading interior package and stylish design outside, the market is eagerly waiting for the new model to be launched here in India. The launch of both the variants petrol & diesel model is slated for this July. With the high expectation from Honda, it is yet to see that Honda is able to put its magic in the hatchback section as well as what it did with the Amaze, and City.
