All-diesel premium crossover Maruti Suzuki S-Cross launches at price starting Rs. 8.34 lakhs

As promised, Maruti Suzuki India has introduced a new crossover model – S-Cross in the domestic car market on 5th of August. The new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross premium compact crossover has launched in India with a starting price tag of Rs. 8.34 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). This new all diesel product from the stable of Maruti Suzuki will be selling exclusively from the recently launched Nexa premium dealership network across India.

The S-Cross, which has been already selling in the international car markets as the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is feature rich sturdy crossover model that is going to compete in the compact SUV segment of India. The S-Cross is Maruti’s first crossover model in India and it boasts of several premium features including rain sensing automatic wipers, cruise control, self adjusting hydraulic clutch, rear seat recliner and many more.

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car maker is aiming of reaching 2 million vehicles sales per annum. And thus, the Indo-Japanese car major is also announcing that more than 35 Nexa dealership outlets have already got operational across 23 cities, while the Nexa network is planned to expand to 100 showrooms by the end of this current financial year.

While speaking at the launch of the S-Cross on Wednesday, the MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India limited, Kenichi Ayukawa said that S-Cross will be now onwards exclusively available for sale at the Nexa outlets across the country. While the company has 35 operational across 23 cities, 100 showrooms are planned across 30 cities within this financial year.

On the other hand, the company’s executive director of sales & marketing, RS Kalsi said that the company will at present cater to the domestic market demand of the S-Cross and has no plans to export the vehicle right now.

The new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is an all diesel crossover model going with the primarily diesel loving sentiments of the Indian car market. It is available with two diesel versions powered by two diesel engines. One is the DDiS 200 version which is powered by a 1.3 liter diesel unit, and the other is a more powerful DDiS 320 version which gets equipped with a 1.6 liter diesel mill.

Ayukawa said that while the company has a market share of 45 percent in the Indian passenger vehicle market, with the launch of the S-Cross the company is hoping to gain more market share.

He added by saying that Maruti Suzuki is setting itself a sales target of 3,000 to 4,000 units of the S-Cross per month.

The newly launched S-Cross will be primarily locking its horns with the recently launched and already successful Hyundai Creta and the other older popular SUV models such as the Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Safari Storm.

The S-Cross is the first model that will be sold from the newly introduced Nexa showrooms, while the already existing Ciaz premium sedan is also expected to be sold through this premium dealership network.
