India’s history of its own electric vehicle (EV) had begun with the Reva-i. The electric vehicle manufacturer, Reva had taken a big leap with in the field of innovation in the Indian market with the Reva-I, although it had many faults with it, which made the car succumb last year with sales rates of less than 5,000 units globally. However, everything is not depended on the sales figures. Reva-i did have the true potential minus its shortcomings that primarily involved its tiny size to accommodate a family and its expensive battery replacement every 3 years. Which is why, Reva has not given up on the idea of an electric vehicle and bets everything on its new bigger and better electric hatchback E2O.

Reva’s hopes and aspirations had become big in stature as it is under the patronage of the Indian auto giant, Mahindra & Mahindra. Thus, Mahindra Reva has decided to take on the market in a big way to facilitate E2O’s success. The company plans to build an electric-car charging network with a commercial fast charger that can fully charge the battery in just 70 minutes. Moreover, it has also set up a new production facility for the production of the E2O.

India has proven to be a bad market for electric vehicles. Indian consumers stay away from the premium price tag, even though it’s far cheaper to charge a vehicle than fuel it. The Indian government had been also very dubious towards it, as it talks about the importance of eco-friendly and non-fuel consuming vehicles on one hand and takes away the subsidies just months after offering it on the other. The charging network is virtually nonexistent in India coupled with the lowest sales rates for the EVs in the country.

The E2O, however comes with a lot of hopes and a whole range of positive and innovative features that is expecting to create a revolution in the Indian auto market.
