The Japanese spec Fit Hybrid has been in the news for some time for its claimed astounding fuel efficiency and also for its great new powertrain technology that involves a single electric motor which is powerful and efficient. Now, the chief engineer of Honda, Art St. Cyr is also boasting about the superb fuel efficiency Japan exclusive Fit Hybrid. He told the media personals about the astounding mileage that the new Fit Hybrid provides pointing out that the new single motor hybrid mechanical system makes the car the highest fuel efficient among the hybrid vehicles in the car market of Japan. With a rated fuel economy of 36.4 km per liter in the Japanese test cycle, Honda deserves to be proud of its gasoline electric Fit hatchback. The Fit Hybrid combines the power generated from a 7 speed DCT and a powerful motor coupled with a new Atkinson mill that has even overtaken the fuel efficiency of the world acclaimed Toyota hybrid range in the domestic car market of Japan that is the home market to both the car makers.

However, this amazing fuel efficient story is limited to the Japanese car market, as the mentioned Fit Hybrid is a Japan only model. In the vast car market of the US, Honda still offers the Fit hatchback with the highest fuel efficiency of 31 mpg in a combined driving mode, as the car offers 28 mpg on the city roads and 35 mpg on the highway. The Fit on the US roads is powered by a 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder engine that is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission gearbox.

It would be definitely great if the Honda considers bringing in the greener Fit Hybrid in the US car market as well as the US consumers would be really appreciating it. St. Cyr says that if Honda can achieve a 35 percent enhancement between the Fit Hybrid generation models, which it has already done with the new model in Japan, then the all new 2015 Fit that is scheduled to launch in the US car market during the 2014 spring will feature the company’s Earth Dreams technology for its engine and transmission. He further said that the company expects to make the Fit a market leader both in terms of performance as well as fuel economy in the sub-compact segment. More details on this should certainly be revealed on the upcoming auto show and Honda gives all reasons to believe that the company is ready to offer much more than this.

As of now, the fact that is clear is that the Fit Hybrid variant is not still on the cards of Honda America. St. Cyr made it clear that the Japanese car major has yet no plans to introduce the green Fit to the US market. However, he said that the company may reevaluate the situation in the future, in case Honda witnesses increasing interest in hybrid technology in the US market. Thus, U.S has to wait to get its Hybrid Fit.
