It is a well-known fact that the Japanese car major, Honda Motor has found amazing success over the past one year in the Indian car market. Honda Cars India has also climbed up the top auto maker’s ladder superbly fast very recently owing to the massive success of its Amaze and new City models.

However, most of the Indian car buyers would like to stick to the other semi Japanese brand Maruti Suzuki, as it is the undisputed market leader. The Indo-Japanese car maker Maruti Suzuki has been ruling over the Indian auto industry for three decades now with several bestselling vehicles. Quality vehicles, superb reliability, affordable pricing and high fuel efficiency have been the primary cause of success for Maruti. However, if you wish to buy a super fuel efficient car, especially a diesel one, then a Honda car is the best choice.

As per a new list of most fuel efficient cars in India, Honda is the clear winner. The all new Honda City is the mileage king of India, which is closely followed by its smaller cousin Honda Amaze. Shockingly, not a single model from Maruti Suzuki has made it to the list of the top 15 most fuel economical cars.

The top 15 fuel efficient cars list in India is made by Economic Times based on the numbers claimed by the auto makers. All the mileage figures are based on the highest possible fuel efficiency achieved on ideal road conditions. As the Indian car market is highly cost conscious, high fuel-efficiency is a key factor for the success of a car.

The top 15 car mileage list is obvious led by the new Honda City sedan diesel offering a massive 26 kilometers per liter, making it a superbly selling vehicle in India. The fourth-generation City is powered by the new 1.5 liter i-DTEC diesel mill; and its mileage is ARAI certified. Closely following the City, the second position in the list is occupied by the Honda Amaze compact sedan diesel, which offers 25.8 km per liter also powered by the same i-DTEC engine in a different tune.

Honda Cars India was affected by severe low sales even a couple of years ago, as the company did not have any diesel cars in its product portfolio. Honda India offered its first diesel car in the domestic market in April last year in the form of the Amaze compact sedan, which became an instant astral success. Honda Cars India has become the new mileage king in India with its industry topping mileage because of its new “Earth dreams” technology that is introduced in its diesel engine.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki has not really made it to the top fuel efficiency rates more than a decade after the Alto mini hatchback. The car maker’s current most fuel efficient model is the DZire, the compact sedan segment leader, which offers 23.4 km per liter in its diesel version, and gets the 19th position in the list made by ET.
