Japanese car major, Honda Motor is anticipating the recall of over 1 million more cars that could be potentially fitted with the defective airbags. If this really happens, then it will be a massive expansion of the airbag recall that has affected multiple auto companies. This faulty airbag recall involves the other two Japanese car majors Toyota and Nissan. Toyota has already recalled a massive number of vehicles already this week involving the same defective airbag problem, while Nissan is still inspecting the matter. The link between these three Japanese car makers’ recall is the component supplier Takata Corp. which had supplied the malfunctioning airbags to the auto manufacturers.

As per the unanimous source, Honda would be announcing the massive recall by the end of the current month in order to replace the defective airbags. As per the source, Honda is currently waiting for further information from the component company Takata regarding the exact fault with the airbag inflator, while it is also looking into the fact of how many vehicles it may have to recall. Till now, it is thought that Honda might have to call back more than the 1.135 million vehicles that the company recalled globally last year.

When Honda was directly contacted regarding the possibility of extending the faulty airbag related recalls that started in 2013, a company spokesperson Akemi Ando said that Honda is conducting the investigations fast and if the company decides that there are still vehicles with potentially defective components, then Honda will quickly announce a recall.

Honda’s Japanese rival and the global auto leader, Toyota has announced a global recall on 11th of this month that involves massive 1.62 million vehicles that were previously recalled outside Japan along with 650,000 more vehicles in Japan that were not recalled previously. Additional vehicles taking the number to a huge 7 million that were equipped with the Takata airbags were recalled across the globe over the past 5 years’ of time.

Toyota Motor’s recall from last year was a part of a much larger multi-company recall that also included the company’s other global car market rivals such as Honda Motor, Nissan Motor and the German luxury car maker BMW. The 4 companies together called back around 3.6 million vehicles with the same airbag inflator issue that could potentially explode in the event of an accident and throw pieces of shrapnel into the vehicle potentially harming the occupants rather than protecting them.

Toyota Motor revealed that it has found out that the recall of the serial numbers of potentially faulty inflators send by Takata was still incomplete and thus the fresh recall.

The United States auto industry regulating body the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that according to a new probe that it has recently conducted, an approximate 1,092,000 vehicles from the car makers including Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Fiat SpA’s Chrysler Group and Honda are under investigation after receiving 6 reports of improper deployment of the airbags.
