The much awaited and speculated Honda Mobilio, will be the car maker’s first venture into the Indian MPV market. The MPV has been one of the most awaited vehicles in India, ever since Honda unveiled it in India during the 2014 Auto Expo held in the month of February. The Mobilio which was launched in January this year in Indonesia has been one of the top selling cars there, and this made the vehicle even more desirable in India.

While some Honda dealers unofficially opened bookings for the Mobilio last month, the company officially commenced the pre-launch bookings for the Mobilio recently this month. Honda Cars India has started the bookings for Mobilio MPV with a token amount of Rs. 50,000, while the company dealers have said that the delivery of the vehicle is going to vary from immediate to a couple of weeks time depending on the variant of the MPV.

The Honda Mobilio MPV is based on the popular Brio hatchback’s versatile platform on which the very successful Amaze id also developed. While in the Indonesian car market the Mobilio comes only in its petrol version, for India it will be offered for sale in both its petrol and diesel versions.

Under the hood, the Mobilio petrol will be powered by a 1.5 liter i-VTEC petrol motor borrowed from the new City, which generates 117 bhp of power. The Mobilio diesel also packs in the City’s 1.5 liter i-DTEC diesel engine that churns out 98 bhp of max power. Both the engines will be coupled with a standard 5 speed manual gearbox, while the petrol engine also gets a CVT automatic transmission option.

The Honda Mobilio will also be country’s most fuel efficient MPV, as Honda claims its diesel mileage to be 24.2 km per liter. The diesel mileage of the Mobilio is however lower than that of the new Honda City offering 26kmpl. The Mobilio petrol is expected to offer 18kmpl.

The new Honda Mobilio MPV will be a sub-compact MPV measuring 4,390 mm long. It is expected to offer class best space and convenience. The Mobiio will have its primary market competition in the form of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which is the current compact MPV segment ruler. The soon to be launched Mobilio’s other market rivals include the Chevrolet Enjoy and the Nissan Evalia MPVs.

Honda Cars India has not revealed the Mobilio’s pricing, and the price is expected to be announced at the official launch of the vehicle. The Mobilio is expected to be tagged between Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 8.50 lakh range.
