Honda Cars India’s dream success continues in the country. Earlier, the Japanese car major had outshone the Indian car maker Tata Motors to grab the 4th position in the domestic car market. And now, it is very well threatening to overthrow another Indian car major Mahindra & Mahindra from its 3rd position in the home market.

New Honda Mobilio MPV

In the month of July, Honda India managed to sell sold more passenger cars than its big rival Mahindra & Mahindra. Honda has thus grabbed the third spot in the country’s car market by outshining Mahindra, when monthly sales are concerned.

The great boost in sales volume for Honda Cars India primarily came from the highly successful models new City and Amaze which was topped by the newly launched Mobilio MPV. Honda launched its first MPV in Indian in the form of the Mobilio on 23rd of July this year, and the response it got was phenomenal.

The similar story was witnessed by another Japanese car major outshining another Indian car maker in the last month. The world’s auto leader Toyota Motor India has beaten the already woe stricken Indian auto giant Tata Motors. Toyota relegated Tata to the 6th spot by grabbing Tata’s previous 5th position in the Indian domestic car market.

Honda Cars India sold 15,709 vehicles in last month, selling thousand units more than Mahindra & Mahindra. Honda India’s sales have grown more than whopping 80 percent in the financial year of 2013-14, helping it to become the 4th top selling brand in India from the previous 8th position.

However, in terms of cumulative yearly sales Mahindra & Mahindra is still ahead of Honda Cars India.

When speaking about the market performance, Honda India’s senior VP of sales & marketing, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen said that the 3rd spot is not the company’s target, meaning that the Japanese car giant is aiming to become the largest car maker in India in future. Sen said that one month’s sale is no indicator for a car maker’s ranking in the auto industry. He added that the company is happy with the sales rates and trying to consistently do well with the car models to achieve the company’s sales target.

Sen also added that the company wanted to see the country’s response to the Mobilio MPV and so far, the vehicle’s response has exceeded the company’s expectations. If the demands for the Mobilio stays this way, then the company may have to start planning about a second shift in the Tapukara car facility soon.

Honda Cars India came with a bang with the launch of the sub-compact sedan ‘Amaze’ and then the all new City mid-size sedan. The Mobilio is a new feather in the cap of Honda India which has already got over 10,000 bookings within a week.
