Re-launch of the 2016 Honda Civic sedan

Honda is not happy with the previous Civic sales and was in dire need to give a quick cosmetic changeover since 2011 for the model to be launched in 2012. The company initiated the process by minor exterior changes along with better equipment while the second generation sedan received a drastic change from its existing automatic to a continuous variable transmission.

The sedan which was discontinued in the year 2012 is now expected to be re-launched and this time it is expected that now the new generation Honda Civic would be featured with an additional 1.8L i-VTEC along with the VTEC turbo engine.

The 10th civic forum has disclosed the rear as well as the front facets of the upcoming and Honda’s new generation 2016 Civic. As per the preview of the New York Auto Show in the previous month, it is expected that the Honda will showcase the preliminary model of its famous vehicle in the later half of the current year. The introduction of the car in America is lined up for the launch somewhere in the month of September-December.

As per the earlier reports, it was clear that the new generation Civic will be available with the company’s VTEC turbo engine of 1.5 liters. Moreover, the civic forum also mentioned that this car will be featured with the Honda’s existing i-VTEC engine which is fitted in the existing product also. There will be choice of CVT or 6 speed manual transmission gear box in the sedan.

The new gen Civic, for the Old continent is expected to be available with the same i-DTEC diesel engine of 1.6 liters along with the option of petrol variant. However, an up-gradation in the transmission could be done to make it 9-speed unit.

As per the global R&D chief of Honda, Yamamoto, not all the variants of Civic will undergo forced induction. Only few of them will be modified to turbo while the rest will be available with the same engines and features. However, Yamamoto did not clarify as to which engines will continue and which will not. While Honda refrained from commenting on the availability of engines, there was report wherein a supplier was quoted saying that the company is going to make around 200,000 turbo engines of 1.5 liter annually. The production will take place at its Anna plant based in Ohio and is reported that the plant has been under up-gradation with an investment of $340-million.

According to the civic forum it is reported that the upcoming sedan Civic will also get Android Auto technology or Apple CarPlay in order to provide better options of connectivity. In addition to this, the car’s in-built intelligent multi-information display feature is possibly going to have a bigger screen and would be more spontaneous in use.

Honda Cars in India has not officially announced the date of launch of the new Civic model which witnessed a significant failure in the year 2012. And, the Honda is now primarily focusing on the facelift of its hatchback car, Jazz.
