The Indian car market has been always a hot space for SUVs, as the large, bulky and tough Sports Utility Vehicle models have been always a hit with the Indian car buyers. However, over the past few years time, the Indian car market has changed a huge deal. Not only the Indian car industry has developed vastly, it has also witnessed great changes of customer preference owing to which the car makers operating in India have also changed the sorts of offerings for India. The Indian car market is currently all for more premium and stylish looking cars. While the Indian car buyers still prefer the SUVs in a huge way, but they now prefer the more stylish, compact and contemporary SUV models rather than the traditional SUVs.

The Indian SUV market is thus getting flooded with new dashing looking global SUV models in varying sizes, especially compact in order to cater to the new-age SUV buyers of India. In fact, year 2015 witnessed the launch of over 10 compact crossover/ SUV models. While all the car majors of India are simply busy like bees churning out as many compact SUVs as possible, Honda Cars India is also not behind in this rat race.

Japanese auto giant, Honda only has its CR-V premium compact crossover in its kitty till now in India. However, Honda Cars India is all braced up to fight head-on in the super hit compact SUV market of India. Honda India has already unveiled the brand new BR-V at the 2016 Auto Expo last month, and it is expected to launch in the coming few months time. In the mean time, the company is also looking to introduce its HR-V premium compact SUV to Indian.

The Honda HR-V compact SUV is known as the Vezel in the Japanese market and was highly speculated to be launched in India previously. However, Honda soon clarified that the HR-V is a premium vehicle model and owing to its expensive pricing the company is not considering it for the Indian market. At that time only Honda also confirmed about a relatively cheaper Brio based compact SUV, which is the BR-V that we are about to get in our market. However, now the Japanese maker is considering the HR-V for India looking at the market’s fast growth and immense potential.

The Honda HR-V shares some visual similarities with its elder sibling, CR-V. It gets a very spacious cabin, premium quality interior and wide array of features. The HR-V is based on the same platform as the Fit or the new Jazz. The compact SUV models offers features like LED DRLs, power door mirror, 7 inch touch screen infotainment system with Bluetooth, smart key entry and much more.

In the global markets, the Honda HR-V gets equipped with a 1.8 liter petrol mill that generates 141 bhp of power and 172 Nm of torque that comes fitted with a 6 speed manual or CVT gearbox. There is also a 1.6 liter diesel motor delivering 120 bhp and 300 Nm that is paired to 6 speed manual transmission.
