The next generation of the Honda Civic hatch was previewed in the concept stage and now some patent sketches have been leaked to give away some more information about the development. The new design incorporates a lot of cues from the outgoing version, but there are subtle changes that will set the next generation model apart from its predecessors from other segments.

The hatchback will share its design language and styling with its larger, sedan and coupe siblings. The production-ready version has more watered down bumpers than in the concept version, and the exhausts are hidden though the concept had shown dual exhausts visible in the middle of the rear bumper.

The rear end of the hatch will have a tapered stance. There will be C-shaped LED tail lamps, pseudo air intakes, and sleek greenhouse. The interiors will not have much of what the sedan or the coupe have, but it will have its own design.

This will be the 10th Generation of the Civic with the new hatchback. This hatch will come with a 1000cc turbocharged petrol engine. The European market will get the i-VTEC fuel in a 3-cylinder setup. The 1.5 liter unit of the sedan version, and a 1.6 liter i-DTEC engine will also be part of the lineup. The transmission will include 6-speed manual, and CVT options. The United States is likely to get only the 1.5 liter petrol engine.

The sales of the car will commence earlier in the States. The market will begin to receive the car by the middle of this year. It will take longer in the European market, where it will release in the beginning of 2017, although the car is being produced at the Swindon plant in the United Kingdom.

The Honda Civic is one step ahead of some other models as far as the new regulations by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are concerned. According to a new report by the NHTSA, 20 car manufacturers have agreed to incorporate Automatic Emergency Braking as standard across all the variants of the new models by the year 2022. However, the Honda Civic already has that taken care of. Honda offers the Honda Sensing system for just $1,000 on any of the variants in the Civic sedan lineup.

Honda is also working towards making an advanced driver assistance system or ADAS, an effective part of the Sensing technology. In addition to Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure and Forward Collision Alerts, Road Departure Mitigation and Lane Keeping Assist, the safety features game is strong in the Honda Civic, and many other Honda cars.

Honda uses some of the most responsive sensors and cameras to ensure that the alert features are able to warn the driver in time to mitigate an accident. With the AEB technology already onboard, the Civic sedan has one less thing to worry about.

Honda is not trying to give the world a fully-automatic car. It is focusing on more important issues like road safety and intends to make its own cars accountable for the minimum number of accidents by 2020, and be totally collision-free by 2050.
