Honda Amaze sedan launched today

After a great amount of speculations, the wait is finally over for the Honda car lovers in India.  Honda Cars India has launched its one of the most awaited cars, the Amaze sedan today, as was scheduled by the company. As was expected and predicted by the industry experts, the Honda Amaze sedan comes with a very competitive starting price tag of Rs 4.99 lakhs.

The Honda Amaze is offered in two fuel variants for the Indian consumers, namely petrol and diesel avatars with starting prices of Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 5.99 respectively (ex-Showroom Delhi).

Under the hood, Honda Amaze sedan’s petrol variant is powered by a 1200cc petrol motor, while its diesel avatar comes with a new 1500cc motor. The Amaze diesel is also the very first diesel offering from Honda in India. Honda, after the launch of the Amaze diesel has already started planning to launch a slew of new diesel powered models in the other segments of the Indian auto market. These new diesel models from Honda that includes a small hatchback to compete primarily with the bestselling Maruti Alto are expected to hit the Indian roads soon in the coming year.

Coming back to the new Honda Amaze, the sedan’s diesel variant is offered to the Indian consumers at a price range of Rs. 5.99 lakhs to Rs 7.60 lakhs, while the car’s petrol variant will be available with a price tag of Rs 4.99 lakhs, which goes up Rs. 7.50 lakhs for the top variant.

This new Honda compact sedan was developed keeping the Indian consumers and driving conditions in mind. The car’s development as well as pricing was set to give a very tough competition to the bestselling and sedan segment leading Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire has been an all time favorite of the Indian auto market and is offered at a price range of Rs 4.92 lakhs to Rs 6.74 lakhs for the petrol variant and between Rs 5.99 lakhs and Rs 7.5 lakhs for the diesel variant.

At the launch of the Amaze, the Managing Officer of Honda Cars, Yoshiyuki Matsumoto said that the Amaze is the most strategic model from Honda for the Indian market that has been developed with a special focus on the Indian needs. This entry level sedan from Honda could be competitively priced by the company as it enjoys the excise duty benefits in India, which is meant for the sub-4 metre cars. Moreover, the great price was possible as the Amaze uses the platform, common parts as well as styling of its very popular hatchback sibling Brio.

At present, Honda Cars India has major expansion plans in India as it has announced an investment of a whopping Rs 2,500 crore by 2014 to set up a new car assembly line at Tapukara facility in Rajasthan.

In the Indian car market, the new Honda Amaze sedan will lock horns with rivals in the form of Tata Manza, Toyota Etios and GM Sail, apart from Maruti Dzire.
