If you are someone who lives in a big city and drive your car daily to the car, then you certainly cannot save yourself of frustrating traffic that greets you every morning and evening. In the past few years, the situation has worsened even further and people are more than willing to shell an extra amount to get the comfort of an automatic transmission gearbox. This trend is gradually becoming popular even with hatchbacks.

Honda Brio and Nissan Micra are two hatchbacks that sport innovative styling.

The Brio hatchback from Honda has been a favorite for many in the intensely competitive hatchback segment. It is easy to drive, stylish, has a robust, fuel-efficient oil burner and a well-appointed and a practical cabin. On the other hand, the Nissan Micro has the right technology to upstage Brio’s uniqueness, at least on paper.

The Micra is equipped with high-tech X-Tronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) under its hood. The CVT technology claims to render a fuel mileage that matches that of a manual gearbox. It also gets an aggressive and a bold nose, innovative pulled-back headlamps, stunning chrome grille and a more sturdy, deeper chin. The Micra also gets LED tail lamps, alloy wheels, rear bumper as well as a plastic additional accessory for the tailgate lip.

Driving the Micra and the Brio

The most striking mechanical modification in the new Micra is the inclusion of the CVT gearbox. The Micra’s engine produces less power as compared to that of the Brio. However, Micra feels vibrant to drive on congested city roads. This is partly owing to Nissan’s highly responsive three-cylinder oil burner and partly owing to the innovative CVT automatic gearbox transmission that enable to keep its engine at an optimized engine speed.

The Honda Brio packs in a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder VTEC engine that churns a  maximum power of 88 bhp, which is 12 bhp more than the Micra’s engine. The Brio’s engine feels smooth as compared to the Nissan’s engine which goes through some typical vibrations seen in a three-cylinder engine. The Brio’s engine is also faster as far as flat-out acceleration is concerned.

The Brio touches 0 to100 kph in 15.09 seconds while the Micra clocks 0 to 100 kph in 17.88 seconds. However, the Brio does not even come close in terms of being responsive as compared to the Nissan Micra’s ultra-responsive engine for a smooth drive in city traffic. The Brio’s gearbox feels a bit laid back at low speeds. The engine creates its highest pulling power only at a higher speed and power delivery is not too enthusiastic initially. Sometimes, it takes quite a bit of time to accelerate even when using full throttle suddenly in speed. This proves to be somewhat frustrating while driving in the city.

As far as interiors are concerned, Nissan Micra’s interiors look quite refreshing. The seat fabric is quite distinctive and the plastics used inside feature an attractive dual tone theme. However, it is Honda Brio that steals the show with its chic interiors.
