Honda Cars India continues to get stellar sales numbers, while the others are still struggling with slowed sales. The sales numbers of April 2014 again showed the marvelous time that Honda is reveling in, which actually began in April last year after the launch of its first diesel car in India, Amaze.

Amaze Anniversary Edition

Honda Cars India now has not one, but two able warriors in the form of the Amaze compact sedan and the all new City sedan. The new City that was launched in January this year went ahead also becoming an instant success like the Amaze. However, the new City seems to be in a better position than the Amaze, at least for now. The new City garnered incredible sales of 9518 units in March which seems impossible to get repeated. However, the City managed great sales in April as well and seemed to be better off than the Amaze which is now engaged in tough competition.

The latest arrival of the Hyundai Xcent in the compact sedan segment has clearly taken a toll on the demands for the Honda Amaze. While, the Amaze did manage to dampen the demand for the segment leader Maruti Swift Dzire, it still remains way ahead of Amaze. However, the Hyundai Xcent ha now arrived with great features package and it seems to diverting the consumers from the Amaze.

Both the Amaze and the City are grabbing huge sales figures though which has ensured that Honda gets an amazing growth of 30 percent as compared to the sales in April, 2013. Thanks to these two cars that enabled Honda to sell a total of 11,442 vehicles last month as compared against the sale of 8,488 vehicles in April last year. In the last month also, Honda India’s other models came nowhere in comparison when it comes to market performance to the City and Amaze.

The Amaze compact sedan sold 3355 units in April this year, while the all new Honda City sold 7044 units. Compared to the March sales of 9518 units, the April sales were quite low for the City, but it did much better than all its market rivals.

The all new City is also now the new segment leader in the upper C segment or the mid-sized sedan segment, but its cousin Amaze could not grab the top spot. While City has been able to overthrow the previous leader Hyundai Verna, Amaze is still following the Maruti Dzire, and now its life is tougher with the threatening Hyundai Xcent.

Honda is in no mood to stop in its line of growing success and is all prepared to launch the Mobilio MPV in India in the second half of 2014. In this way the Japanese car major will have presence in all the lucrative segments of India, namely compact sedan, mid-sized sedan and MPV segments. Honda is also busy developing a compact SUV based on the Brio to enter the very popular compact SUV segment sometime around 2016.
