Honda has made some very impressive vehicles for the Indian market and with the exception of a few, they all have been received well in the market. The Honda Amaze launched last year has been selling in impressive numbers and thanks to the introduction of a diesel engine, the new City has been selling in good numbers as well. Now they are almost ready with another vehicle that might repeat what we saw with these two cars. It will compete against the popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which is already doing good numbers and then the tried and tested Toyota Innova. We take a look at why Mobilio seems to be a better option than other MPVs in our market.

A MPV is meant to be practical and have loads of space on the inside. It is a Honda and we all know how good Honda is at this business. Even the small on outside Honda Brio and Amaze have got loads of space on the inside. It is the same story with the Mobilio MPV. They have packed it well on the inside to free up a lot of space and no matter what the numbers suggest, it would be a spacious and comfortable car.

Its diesel variant is powered by the new Honda diesel engine that came out last year with the Amaze and then made it to the City. It has already been proved how good the engine is and would definitely be better than the one running under the hood of Ertiga. Maruti hasn’t got any high capacity diesel engines so the Ertiga has got the 1.3 multijet in its 90 bhp variant and it doesn’t work well in the Ertiga. It has got a lot of turbo lags which makes it hard to drive in city. On the other hand the 1.5 litre unit develops a peak power of 100 bhp and has got plenty of torque without any turbo lag to talk about.

The petrol engine on offer would be the 1.5 litre engine that is found in the Honda City. This VTEC engine is also powerful as well as efficient and would perform well in the Mobilio as well. Apart from the manual gearbox, we might also see a CVT being offered as an option. Availability of components won’t be an issue either as it shares the platform with Brio and Amaze. This would also help in keeping the prices competitive.

While this upcoming MPV has borrowed the front face from Brio, they have made some changes to it. It gets redesigned bumpers to give it an aggressive front. The rear looks nice as well. They have blackened the rear posts giving it a floating roof effect. The rear windscreen wraps around to give it a nice look. All these features together make this look like one promising MPV. It will be priced very close to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga so it is expected to eat into its sales when it comes out.
