Honda Cars India is all set to launch its first Brio Amaze diesel by the next fiscal year in India. The Brio Amaze diesel engine will emerge with a 1.5 litre that will power the entry level sedan. The Research and Development officials of the company have announced that they are also looking to manufacture smaller diesel engines to suit the high demand for diesel cars in the Indian market.

Speaking on the launch of Brio Amaze Diesel, Hironori Kanayama CEO and President of Honda Cars India Ltd said “The Indian market was low on precedence in the past. We used to focus on the US and Japan, and in the last 10 years on China. Now the emerging market is India and Honda has changed its mindset to focus on India, The trend for diesel vehicles is getting stronger and stronger with the increase in petrol price in India. Honda was late in focusing on the segment but now we have started on it. Amaze is the first step and is a very significant product for us.’’

In India the company will introduce the petrol and diesel engines of Honda Amaze, while only the petrol engine model will be introduced in Thailand. The company’s main initiative is to target small Honda cars to Asian market. The model was introduced in India and Thailand in 2011 and in 2012 the model was introduced in Indonesia. In September this year, the company announced that it will help set up diesel engine plants in India.

The company is working on establishing a 1.5 litre engine in Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. The sedan Amaze will receive a completely new design; the car will be equipped with new body parts, longer wheelbase and redesigned front grille and a different bumper. The first crease will start from the front bumper and end at the rear, while the second crease will start from the rear door and will be designed right till the tail lamps. The chrome strip will be located on the rear of the car, the tail lamps in the Honda Amaze will be similar in design to the Honda City, and the rear bumper will have many cuts and creases making it one of the elevated quality features in this model.

On the interior there will be spacious cabin space with sufficient knee room. There will be few changes in the steering, instrument panel or dashboard. The only highly noticeable modification will be observed in the tachometer which will not be marked beyond 5000 rpm. The driver’s seat will have a height adjustment negating the corns of other Brio variants having a low seat position. The steering wheel will be a standard three spoke design, not observed in the Jazz and City wheels. The interior of the Amaze sedan is going to be of a higher quality to the Etios and Verito. The colour palette will be similar to the ones found in Honda cars in India. The Amaze will compete against the Maruti Dzire by having more legroom, and being able to accommodate a six foot passenger. This model can easily accommodate five people and the quarter glass window at the rear is designed in way to reduce the stuffy feeling commonly encountered in compact sedans.
